Shaker Meets Modern | Deliberate Design

After six years in their home, Charlotte and Grant embarked on an exciting renovation journey with SEMMbuild, a family-owned builder with a true knack for period home restorations. The focus was to blend the old with the new, honouring the existing Californian Bungalow style - while infusing industrial and Hamptons elements.

Ensuring that any modern enhancements complemented, rather than overpowered, the home's historical character was at the heart of this build. Charlotte and Grant’s vision was about so much more than just a house, they were creating their forever (and ever) home.

The kitchen transformation was their top priority, tailoring the space to fit the couples lifestyle like a glove, snug and just right. Incorporating a Franke sink with a view, a servery window for easy outdoor dining, a butlers pantry to stash groceries and a central island bench which doubled as a family gathering spot. Everything was intentional. Strategic. Making full use of each and every inch of the floorplan - transforming this older home into a modern marvel.

Everything was designed to fit within Charlotte and Grant's budget, without compromising on style. Thoughtful decisions, like the continuity of the Polytec Casino Profile across the laundry, kitchen and pantry maintained design cohesion, while using a flat profile door in less visual areas assisted with budget control.

Family efficiency was essential too, so hidden beneath custom cabinetry lies a laundry chute, alongside dedicated storage for each family member, helping to keep piles of clothes (and toys) in order. The renovation was not just an upgrade of space but a thoughtful construction of a home that facilitates family chores, enjoyment, togetherness and future growth.
