Style in Spades
An Entertainer’s Dream
Kevin & Greg’s Edwardian home nestled in the heart of Elwood brings style in spades, but it didn’t start out that way... Typical of Federation houses of the time, this building featured a number of classic Victorian elements they were looking to modernise, whilst adding their own stamp.
The kitchen redesign formed part of an entire home renovation, which included structural changes to open up the room and make the most of a challenging space. The aim? A functional kitchen that intrigued interest and doubled up as an entertaining area fit for royalty. Mission accomplished.
From the moment we met Kevin and Greg we knew that this project would be fun. Armed with look-books and brimming with ideas, the duo were decisive about what they wanted - and happy to break from kitchen convention. Their eagerness to explore design options and inject their own character into the space, culminated in a kitchen that’s different; exuding wow factor from the moment you step into the room and take it all in.
Instantly visible is Shaker profile custom cabinetry, featuring the Designerform Bonlex Metung profile in Spada Satin. Charming, yet functional, this country Shaker style is popular in everything from suburban homes to city apartments, due to its versatile nature. But this is not your average country kitchen. Infused with modern glamour, Kevin and Greg’s space blends classic with quirk – adding a twist to this styles more traditional elements, such as their choice of Kethy HT114 handles in Oxidised Tin.
The pop of silver perfectly complements the kitchen’s blue-grey hues, matched by custom tapware and metallic pendant lights hung strategically above the kitchen island, incorporating a contemporary finish.
Smartstone Calacatta Blanco benchtops, featuring delicate grey veining on a luminous white background is accented with gold highlights, subtly integrating metallic tones into every surface. This coherent colour matching is echoed by the darker choice of grouting, featured in the bevelled subway tile splashbacks mounting the stove. This attention to detail ensures that the compact space flows easily from section to section, feeling like a perfect fit.
Blum Intivo drawers make the most of lower cabinetry space. Their closed and seamless side panels produce a harmonious feather-light glide time and time again – meaning you can grab things quickly without creating those familiar bangs and clangs. If you’re tight for space in your own home, opt for drawers over shelving so you can maximise both depth and height while being able to see and access everything. Ergonomically, it’s great to position your drawers under benchtops, it’ll mean no crouching or reaching behind stacks of plates or bowls, simply pull and see. Practicality at its best.
The window seat gives a quaint cottage feel and instantly invites you to sit down and unwind. Introducing custom cabinetry like this into a space, enables you to work with existing features and highlight them in an enchanting way. Framing the window and adding a useful feature to the room, it’s a win-win. Devoted to consistent design, Kevin and Greg had the seats’ cushion made bespoke in order to match the blue-grey tones and blend with the space. So, if you’re thinking it looks like a perfect colour match, that’s because it is.
The state-of-the-art Neff cooktop is matched in equal measure by the compact Qasair rangehood, and Electrolux fridge – guaranteeing these entertainers aren’t just about what’s on show. These mod-cons have us confident that the pair know their way around a kitchen and will be serving up delicious canapés to eager guests.
This home is a true reflection of its owners character and style; striking, funky, homely, welcoming and effortlessly cool - exactly like Kevin and Greg. You can’t help but want to invite yourself for a G&T and a natter at the island bench… any takers?
We’re beaming, because when we work on projects that break from the norm, we get to know our clients a little better. After all, each unique choice they make (no matter how small it may seem) adds up to form a picture of their personality, infusing a piece of them right into the heart of their home. This kitchen does exactly that, and is one we are proud to add to our portfolio.

Before & After
What a transformation… Juxtaposing the Spada Satin blue-grey cabinetry with brilliant white walls, invites natural light into the kitchen, creating an elegant open plan space which still feels like its own zone. Cleverly, the darker coloured cabinetry visually recedes in the space, making walls appear farther back and enlarging the room - a touch of wizardry.
A smaller space doesn’t always mean you have less options - you just need to get a little more creative with what you do have. Working with Kevin and Greg, we reconfigured the layout to optimise every inch of space and ensure it had the right flow with the rest of the property, fitting into the overall vision for their home renovation.
