Crowning Your Kitchen
Benchtops + Splashbacks
So, you’ve begun thinking about the different elements of your custom kitchen design.
Cabinetry is sorted, you know what layout you’re working with, the flooring has been taken thoroughly into account. It’s surface time.
This blog is the second in our series of kitchen components, where we sit down with Wood Wizards owner, Jordan Corbett, to narrow down the “best of” when it comes to benchtops and splashbacks.
Now, trust us when we say a kitchen attracts mess like a magnet. A really strong one. Likely the most used room in your house… it endures cooking, entertaining, organising, working and eating. It should come as no surprise therefore, that your multipurpose room requires the right materials.
Whether glass, tiles, stone or laminate, it’s vital that your surfaces not only perform under everyday stresses – but they blend seamlessly with your design too. After all, it’s important you enjoy the room you’re in the most.
Working your way up
When it comes to kitchen renovations, we always recommend using lighter colours higher up in your space. This lifts the room and makes it feel more spacious.
Darker cabinetry can add depth and lighter tops promote an airy, bright atmosphere.
Of course, rules are there to be broken, but just make sure everything works together in harmony if you do decide to go against the grain.
When you think of the upper part of your kitchen, which elements spring to mind? If you’re picturing ceilings or lighting, you’ve gone a little too far… We’re talking benchtops and splashbacks.
What we like to call the crowning components.
Stone benchtops - a solid choice
Your benchtops are fundamental to your kitchen. Constantly in use, they come under a lot of strain. Which is why they need to be durable, strong and of course, divine to look at. Benchtops typically take up a large portion of kitchen real estate, so something for the eyes to feast on is essential.
Splashbacks - keep it seamless
Jordan’s top pick for splashbacks is a little bit of a curveball. But for good reason.
Choosing a stone is the same as your benchtops is smart. It creates clean lines that will enliven your space whilst keeping it slick and refined. Reduce the clutter.
If you want to vary the textures, then be sure to keep the colours similar. With kitchens, the aim is always to find the beauty in simplicity. We work with our clients to refine design because inevitably the kitchen fills up with day to day items, appliances and so minimalism (with plenty of storage) is key.
A joint effort
Benchtops and splashbacks work better together.
Turns out so do we.
We work with you to find the best solutions to create your perfect kitchen. We consider every aspect of your style and needs and merge them seamlessly into a practical, functional and thoughtfully designed space.
