A Recipe for Success
Crafting the ultimate kitchen
Stepping into the world of a kitchen renovation is no small feat, but when the right ingredients come together, the results can be nothing short of delicious. For Helen and Dom, their journey to a dream kitchen began with a spark of local pride and a browse through glowing reviews from Facebook’s Bayside Community Hub and Google. Their visit to our showroom, motivated by community ties and word-of-mouth, confirmed that their quest for a culinary haven was about to take a magical turn. Their decision was clear: support local, expect excellence.
Helen and Dom's existing kitchen had plenty of space, but it lacked efficiency. A disjointed U-shape layout separated the cooking area from the dining space, topped with low benchtops and outdated tiles — far from ideal for Dom, an accomplished Italian culinarian, and Helen, a pro at whipping up hearty (and homely) family meals. They needed a transformation that would marry functionality with sleek design. They craved a space where memories could be lovingly crafted and savoured.
Seamless transformation: from plan to perfection
The couples vision was crystal clear: blend the old kitchen with the dining area to create a welcoming functional space, that worked. A space that invites you to stay…
First up, it was time for a visit. And once Jordan walked through Helen and Dom’s home, the renovation's fate was sealed. With an expert eye that can only come from reimagining thousands of kitchens across Melbourne, Jordan re-worked the room layout by suggesting the removal of an obstructive doorway, instantly broadening the potential for a stunning open-plan kitchen. The final design not only increased storage substantially, but also enhanced the flow of the house, making every square inch count.
Before & After
Where magic meets mastery
As the plans took a more concrete shape, the journey continued in the Wood Wizards showroom where Kirstin Sweet, our esteemed interior design consultant from Styled Haus, pulled up a chair at the table. Cup of tea in hand, ready to listen.
From the onset, her involvement was integral, ensuring that the choice of materials and colours not only resonated with Helen and Dom's vision, but also worked in harmony.
Each selection, from the Polytec Laminate in Classic White and soothing Plantation Ash, to the robust elegance of Dorset timber handles, was a testament to their desire for a kitchen that was both functional and inviting.
This collaborative session was pivotal to the project, nutting out each and every detail - aligning the room with their personal style and, importantly, their practical needs.
Need a little more design support? Kirstin’s expertise is not limited to material selection and colour palettes. For those looking to to delve deeper into their home’s design, Kirstin is available to advise on everything from tiles and flooring to light fittings and furniture, ensuring you achieve a consistent theme that flows gracefully from one room to another.
Details make a difference
A simplistic yet highly efficient layout, state-of-the-art appliances and hidden storage solutions - including cleverly integrated timber floating shelves and a sleek roller door system, are just a handful of features that truly sets this kitchen apart. And their choice of materials make all the difference…
Glancing down as you step into the space, old tiles have been replaced by engineered timber flooring, inviting you to meander through the room.
The Porcelain Factory Enviro 12 Grigio Lassa Gold benchtops take centre-stage, offering durability and a luxe finish that effortlessly bounces light around the room; brightening and lightening. Helen and Dom’s visit to their showroom in Carrum Downs to see the full-sized stone slabs in person was an invaluable experience, giving them peace of mind that their choice in material was the right one.
Sleek Polytec laminate cabinetry in Classic White further illuminates the room, beautifully contrasted by Matte Black Dorset Rhone handles, which serve up a tactile experience that delights the senses.
As the main kitchen spills into the pantry, Polytec Bari profile cabinetry adds a modern yet warm aesthetic, complemented by the organic texture oozing from oversized Dorset Timber Dished Semi Round handles, in Raw American Oak.
Maximising storage and minimising clutter
Functionality was the beating heart of this kitchen. With Dom's Italian heritage and passion for cooking, it was essential that the space was ergonomically optimised. This involved installing the NEFF induction cooktop, rangehood and ovens featuring state-of-the-art slide and hide doors, which offer both easy access and a modern look. Delizioso! 🤌
Storage was a significant focus for the couple too. They incorporated clever solutions such as the Blum TANDEMBOX antaro drawers and ORGA-LINE container sets nestled within the cabinetry, emphasising utility and practicality.
The Hafele Hailo Euro Cargo ST60 bin is always in reach, while the Luxul Tambour Kitchen Roller Door System provides an innovative and tidy solution for appliances. Combined with the floating shelves, it gives Dom & Helen the perfect blend of open and hidden storage, enhancing the kitchen’s performance while maintaining its minimal design. Hafele strip lights warmly guide you through the space and it’s the seemingly small finishing touches like these that tie everything together.
With innovative appliances, thoughtful design and high-quality materials, it’s a space that will serve them well for years to come.
A kitchen for today and tomorrow
What began as a simple kitchen makeover evolved into a comprehensive culinary transformation that not only enhanced the functionality of Helen and Dom's home, but also its overall aesthetic. The room was no longer just a place to cook; it became a hub of joy, creativity and togetherness, embodying everything a dream kitchen should be. It's a testament to what happens when client vision, expert design and masterful execution come together — a truly magical creation.
